Drinking half glass of wine every day can extend life of about five years. A Dutch research, published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, reached this conclusion after having checked the data of 1400 people during forty years. The numbers about the longevity of people considered in the survey show that those who regularly consume wine, indifferently if white or red, live an average of five years longer than teetotalers; beer lovers, instead, increase their life expectancy of only two years and a half. Researchers calculate that those who drink half a glass of wine every day for a long period of time can reduce by 40% their risk of mortality from any cause and can lower by 48% the danger of incurring heart attacks, strokes and other adverse cardiovascular events. These benefits are due to the antioxidant substances contained in wine, such as resveratrol, polyphenols and other healthy molecules such as tannin. This is the scientific explanation of how wine extends life, there is another one that is certainly more poetic. Einstein taught us that time is a relative variable, it does not pass, in fact, always in the same way. Our perception of its flowing depends a lot on how we feel and what we are doing; therefore by drinking good wine we will feel like in heaven and surely time will start slowing down and passing by much more slowly, therefore extending our life. Well, we like much more the second explanation, even though it is not supported by researches, we prefer it because it is poetic and rich in charm.
