List of products by brand Marchesi Frescobaldi
The long history of the Frescobaldi family began around the year 1000 with the flourishing of the banking activity of medieval Florence. In short, the Frescobaldi family became absolute protagonists of political and economic life and earned the title of treasurer of the English Crown. They inscribed their name in the history of Florence, commissioning great public and architectural works such as the Santa Trinita bridge over the Arno river and the basilica of Santo Spirito, entrusted to Filippo Brunelleschi.
The Castello di Nipozzano is the most famous and historical property of the Frescobaldi family. According to popular tradition, Nipozzano means "without a well", to testify that the area was poor in water, an ideal circumstance for the cultivation of vines. The first evidence of the quality of Nipozzano wine dates back to the Renaissance, when even the great artists such as Donatello and Michelozzo Michelozzi used to buy this wine. A unique peculiarity of the territory is due to the far-sightedness of an enlightened ancestor of the Frescobaldi family who in 1855 invested 1,000 silver florins to start cultivating varieties then unknown in Tuscany, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot: after more than a century, the care of these magnificent vineyards allowed the production of the great wine of the estate, Mormoreto. Castello di Nipozzano and the wine estate are located east of Florence, in the heart of the prestigious Chianti Ruffina area, right on the mountainside overlooking the Arno river valley. Thanks to the perfect balance between altitude, soil and fresh and ventilated microclimate, the different varieties find the ideal conditions for a perfect growth and allow to produce wines with a harmonious character and a strong longevity.
