List of products by brand Jerome Prevost
Few kilometers west of Reims, at the foot of Petite Montagne, there is Gueux, a small village in the green that was almost completely destroyed by German armies during the Second World War. Here has its headquarter the Maison de Jerome Prevost, in a white house in front of a giant of Champagne: Louis Roederer. In 1987, at the age of 21, Jerome inherited his family's 2.2 hectares of vineyards and began to plant the least known of the three typical Champagne grape varieties: Pinot Meunier. For about ten years Jerome sold his grapes to various local producers, but in the meantime he began to make wine with few grapes and to produce a very small number of bottles of Champagne for his family. By a twist of fate Anselme Selosse, a famous name of Champagne, tasted one of these bottles and immediately saw the high potential of these 2 hectares of vineyard and Jerome's enthusiasm, so he started to support him with precious advices, pushing him to start a production of very high quality level oriented to sales. So in 1998 the first bottles of this young Maison entered the market. Since then, the 6-10 thousand bottles Jerome produces annually have become a rarity sought after by the most demanding Champagne lovers. The principle that inspires and guides the production of this Maison is very simple and can be summarized in 4 points: a single terroir, Gueux, a single plot, Les Beguines, a single grape variety, Pinot Meunier, a single cuvée, La Closerie des Beguines. Jerome Prevost is one of the very few, if not the only one, vignerons who makes Champagne from Pinot Meunier only, without mixing it with Pinot Noir or Chadonnay. La Closerie is always a one year old wine, which is not mentioned in the label, fermented on indigenous yeasts, in oak barrels and the result is a rich, powerful and spicy Champagne, a Champagne from Pinot Meunier unique in the region.
