Fattoria dei Barbi is a solid winery in Montalcino which has its roots in the Middle Ages. Colombini family, owner of the winery, can in fact boast a long noble tradition from Siena and owns vineyards in Montalcino since 1352. The recovery of these lands, starting from the end of the eighteenth century, led to the foundation of the winery, to which are owed important records, such as the promotion and valorization of Brunello di Montalcino all over the world from the 1960's on. Today Fattoria dei Barbi is led by Stefano Cinelli Colombini, a great producer who was able to take on the responsibility of a great heritage projecting it towards the future. In fact, his work consists in reconciling tradition with an openness to modernity through continuous experimentation and a calibrated use of technology. The 75 hectares of vineyards, located between 250 and 450 meters above sea level on soils rich in marl, sand and clay, are cultivated with a high planting density and low yields per hectare, in order to ensure the high quality of the grapes. Since 1997 to the historical properties in Montalcino has been added a property of 28 hectares in Maremma, Aquilaia dei Barbi, bought by Stefano before investments in the territory became a fashion. Fattoria dei Barbi, thanks to a consistent vineyard, produces every year about 800,000 bottles, of which 200,000 of Brunello only, offered at a very competitive price. These wines are characterized by a typical and territorial style, with a modern aromatic cleanliness and have a quality/price ratio which has few equals in the splendid territory of Montalcino.
